What can I plant to attract hummingbirds to my property? Next to butterflies, hummingbirds are probably the most popular winged creature people invite into their gardens. When looking for plants to attract hummingbirds, keep in mind that their long skinny beaks give them a preference for tube or bell shaped flowers. Butterfly bushes, flowering quinces, beauty bushes, lavender, honeysuckles, currants, gooseberries, rosemary, elderberries, lilacs, weigelas, trumpet vines, zinnias, speedwells, sages, penstemons, bee balm, lupines, geraniums, coral bells, red hot pokers, delphiniums, foxgloves, gladioli, columbines, butterfy weed and hollyhocks are just a few examples of flowers that attract hummingbirds.
