I used to grow Jerusalem artichokes, but stopped because I could never find a recipe for them that I liked. This article on the National Post website gives what looks to be a great recipe for the tubers. In the end, I would keep them for years because I liked the yellow flowers that bloomed late in the season, but didn't bother replanting them in my new place. Maybe I should.

For those of you looking to tart up the front of your house for Halloween, the National Post website lists some suggestions from Landscape Ontario for how to do it with plants instead of with the always popular (and incredibly tacky) plastic pumpkins, rubber spiders and ghosts made from last year's sheets.

I don't ever seem to be able to get enough of bee stories, so it's no surprise that I'd stumble across this article on the BBC website about the flower preferences of bumblebees. It seems that recent research has shown that these valuable pollinators are attracted to both striped and red flowers. For those of you looking to lure more bees into your gardens, you now know what to pick up next time you wander down to your local garden centre.

The Victoria Times Colonist is carrying an article today on a green home in Ottawa that looks elegant and stylish. You wouldn't necessarily pick it out as an environmentally correct home. I tend to question whether a 3,200 sq. ft. home housing a pair of empty nesters can really be considered environmentally correct, but the fact is it probably leaves a much smaller footprint than its size would suggest.
