For second week in a row, I'm posting a tidbit from Canada Blooms. This article looks at the latest gardening trends which, apparently, involve colour and whimsy. Good news for me since colour and whimsy have been governing my gardening style ever since I developed one. It's enormously convenient when fashion collides with my personal tastes. It makes it seem like I'm more hip than I am - for this year anyway.

For those of you who just love the lifestyle guru that is Martha Stewart, here is video of her dispensing advice at this year's Canada Blooms. All the video really shows is her potting up some tulips that are in full flower while explaining that you need to take special care to feed your potted plants. Considering that I could probably pot up tulips stone-cold drunk while standing on one foot in the midst of a wind storm, I wasn't all that blown away. But then I don't count myself among her legion of followers either.

We dropped by the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and I have to admit that we were a little disappointed by what we saw there. The structures were not as well maintained as they could have been and the neighborhood buildings visable from inside the gardens did little to enhance the view. On the bright side, the camellias, magnolias, and azaleas were in bloom and the weeping willows were just leafing out, so as long as you looked at the plants and ignored the surroundings, all was well.
