Some articles I stumble across on the internet make me shake my head. The Reuters website is reporting that New York City celebrated Earth Day by creating a virtual forest on the billboards in Times Square. That's right, instead of advertising whatever tacky crap they usually advertise, these billboards were lit up with the images of thousands of trees. The amount of electricity required to pull this stunt is not reported in the article, but it boggles the mind how anyone would think pissing away a fortune displaying images of trees on billboards is doing the Earth any favours. Talk about not getting it.

It seems Mother Earth has rights that the United Nations needs to protect against abuse. According to this article on the Vanvouver Province website, Bolivia is in the process of drafting a treaty that seeks to give the Earth what human rights legislation already extends to the people who live on her.

A commercial greenhouse has sprung up on an office tower in Montreal, allowing 2,000 urban dwellers to purchase a basket of fresh, organic produce each week through a subscription service. According to this article on the Globe and Mail website, this greenhouse produces tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs and even lemons. It's hard to imagine how this is economically viable, but it's certainly a step in the right direction.

It seems the UK has a National Potato Day and this video on The Guardian website showing a potato enthusiast selecting her seed potatoes at Ryton Organic Gardens in Warwickshire contains more interesting information than you might expect.
